When he was born, we had 3 "little giraffe" silkies, two blue and one brown. The blues ones were only different in that one was a polka dot pattern and the other was solid. These silkies are satin on one side, and velvet on the back.
I had registered for three because all through college I was a nanny for a family with five children. One of the girls, my three year old, had a blanket very similar and her mom was ALWAYS having to buy replacements! So, I thought I would buy extra in case that were to happen with Aiden....
They all began getting a lil worn, and then it happened...we lost the brown one around Christmas 2011. We had gone to the park to look at Christmas lights and ride the train. It was dark, and we lost it! So then, we were down to two. I had the more worn silkie (polka dot one) as the going out silkie, for when we went to church, shopping, etc. I designated the solid one as the one that stayed in his bed, so it would stay clean for when he slept. (I know, I'm OCD). Hence, the name bed silkie.
Well, we are now down to one silkie! We lost the polka dot silkie shopping one day. I called over and over, went to every service desk, everything! I got online and went to any specialty boutique that I came across to get more, but wouldnt ya know....they discontinued this design!!! I emailed the company, we tried replacing them with anything remotely close in that brand. We even had some made. No luck! The only one acceptable, was "bed silkie". We have tried sneaking the other silkies in bed with him or with his bed silkie just to get him used to the others because realistically, this one is not going to make it much longer!
For a while, he would tell the difference immediately and throw the others down. We kept pushing it, telling him sometimes silkie has to get washed and he could have a differnt one. Luckily, lately he has become more accepting. Now, don't get me wrong, he still has to have the "bed silkie" but now he will carry it along with all the replacements. So, now instead of one he will sometimes carry five! "Bed silkie" is still "the one" and has to go with us everywhere! He loves to put his fingers through one of the tears and when sucking his fingers will rug it on his face. He loves silkie!
